The food was enjoyable and the staff very friendly – however when coming to pack to leave the hotel we realised an amount of jewellery and personal belongings had been taken from our room. The Police were involved, but not much help really – the incident was reported at 4pm and the police arrived at 9. So please beware when leaving anything in the hotel room. Our belongings were hidden away in two bags in a drawer. Apart from this was an enjoyable holiday and i would definately visit the area again. My wife and i have just returned from a trip to Ireland, and our second hotel was the Hydro hotel in lisdoonvarna, where we stayed for three nights. As our coach pulled up we were hoping for a better stay than our previous hotel, the Ardmore in Dublin, see review. A smiling receptionist, welcomed us to the Hydro, handed us our keys, and pointed us in the right direction for our room, which as it was on the ground floor, was very easy to find, our cases soon followed. The room was reaaly nice ,clean and fresh and spotless. The hotel itself is brill with old photographs as well as some unusual artwork, but it all seems to work well together.

We were a small group of only about 19 students who had survived the end of year exams when several of our colleagues who had failed were required to withdraw from the university. Whatever about previous appearances by Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones , this show created the notion of Slane as an event gig. Believe it or not, a couple of thousand jobs were plucked out of thin air as a result of the show. The one-day festivals began with home-grown folk acts and trad acts in , before expanding to house everyone from Status Quo, John Denver, The Pogues and the McGarrigle sisters to Christy Moore who else?
The festival moved to Cork in , took over the Point in Dublin including an outdoor stage in a fenced-off part of the car park in and returned once again to Thurles for a one-day bash in before running out of steam. The Radiohead of Kid A and innovative record-release schemes were decades away. Cave was the Liss Ard poster boy, appearing at all three festivals. The Verve were at the height of their success, but the all-singing, all-joking, all-dancing ex-Take Thatter wooed the audience with every trick in the book.
After that, it was an easy jump to headlining the Phoenix Park and Croke Park
